While on the police department, he met and married the love of his life, Christine Quakenbush. He quickly rooted himself in Sallisaw working at Oklahoma Nursing Home Supply and later owning and operating Radio Shack in Sallisaw and Tahlequah.
He eventually started PC Communications Inc., where he worked with Sallisaw Public Schools for 22 years creating their first computer lab and enjoying the antics of Betty Birdwell, Linda Mc Clure and Oralia Fears.
In his leisure, Alex enjoyed bowling, golf, travel, crossword puzzles and a good cigar. Children include daughter and son-in-law, Brandace and Brandon Moore; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Brad Philpot; son, James Quakenbush; son, Chris Smukalla; son, TC Smukalla; honorary Brazilian daughter, Fernanda Monte-Mor; grandchildren include, Evelyn and Eliza Philpot, Reagan Moore, and Madison and Luke Smukalla. In the 1960s he joined the Army and proudly served his country as a military police officer in Germany.
After leaving the military, he continued his career in law enforcement by joining the police department in Miami, Fla.
